O Come, Blessed Lord & Redeemer Of The World - Lord Christ De Messiah! For Thou Hast Accomplished All Things, Which Thou Did Foretell By The Holy Prophets & Thy Holy Law; And Redeemed The Living By The Cross Of Calvary & Art Come Down To Men On ๐ŸŒ Earth, That By The Death Of The Cross Thou Might Deliver Men From Condemnation & Doom In Hellfire By The Power Of Thy Death. ๐Ÿ  THREE PERSONS IN ONE GOD ๐Ÿ  
No doubt this is a vital, important & interesting theological ๐Ÿท subject of great & glorious dimension, though, it has posed a controversial topic to some sects & denominations of Christendom. Amazingly, each of these sects or denominations following its own dogmatic system in affording interpretation to the Biblical Doctrine of The Blessed Holy Trinity - Three Persons In One God! (1 John 5: 7). 

Therefore, I've taken it to be part of the essential business of this THEOLOGICAL ROMANCE to lend adequate sacred exposition to the Biblical Teaching so as to distinguish The Truth from doctrinal mispath & confusion. The Holy Scripture says: "The Truth Shall Set You ๐Ÿ†“ Free". 

Let me commence with the declaration of the Gospel Truth: That The Father & The Son & The Holy Spirit Are One & Inseparable! O Blessed Holy Trinity! 

In fact, the essence of the Biblical Doctrine of The Holy Trinity is that The One Godhead, theologically speaking, exists simultaneously in THREE MODES OF BEING, or "Hypostasis". Everything that The Father is, is also seen in The Son & everything that The Son is belongs to The Father: for both The Father & The Son are One. 

The Son in His entirety abides in The Father & in return possesses The Father in entirety in Himself. Thus the hypostasis of The Son is, so to speak, the form & presentation by which The Father is known & The Father's hypostasis is recognized in the form of The Son. Thus, we have the doctrine of the "Co-inherence", otherwise called, as Biblical Scholars would have it, "Perichoresis" of the Divine Persons. The Godhead can be said to exist "undivided .... in divided Persons" & there is an "identity of nature" in the Three Hypostasis. 

Therefore, we confess "identity of nature & so accept the "Homoousion" ....  for He Who is God in respect of Substance is consubstantial with Him Who is God in respect of Substance. The Three have One Nature, namely, God, The Ground of Unity being The Father, out of Whom & towards Whom the subsequent Persons are reckoned. 

While all subordinationism is excluded, The Father remains The Source, Fountain-head or Principle of The Godhead. He imparts His Being to The Two Other Persons, & so can be said to cause Them or bring Them forth. Consequently, we speak of "One & The Same Person Of The Father, out of Whom The Son is Begotten & The Spirit Proceeds"; & in the strict sense we describe the Unique Cause of Those caused by Him One God. 

In order to explain how The One Substance can be simultaneously present in Three Persons, we appeal to the analogy of a Universal & its Particulars. "OUSIA" & "HYPOSTASIS" are differentiated exactly as Universal & Particular are, for example, animal & particular man. From this point of view each of the Divine Hypostasis is the Ousia or Essence of Godhead determined by its appropriate particularizing characteristic, or identifying peculiarity, just as each individual man represents the Universal "Man" determined by certain characteristics which mark him off from other men. These particularity or particularizing characteristics are respectively "Paternity", "Sonship" & "Sanctifying Power" or "Sanctification". We can define more precisely as "Ingenerateness", "Generateness" & "Mission" or "Procession".

The distinction of The Persons is grounded in Their origin & mutual Relation. They are, we should observe, so many ways in which The One Indivisible Divine Substance distributes & presents Itself & hence They come to be termed "Modes Of Coming To Be". 

The whole unvaried Substance, being in-composite, is identical with the whole unvaried Being of each Person .... the individuality is only the manner in which the identical Substance is objectively presented in each several Person. Once again, I call to your mind the statement "so many ways in which The One indivisible Divine Substance distributes & presents It; & hence They come to be termed "Modes Of Coming To Be".

  • We might go on remarking here that "Those whose operations are identical have a single substance".  Now there is a single operation  of The Father & The Son, as is shown by "Let Us Make Man In Our Image & Likeness", or, "Whatsoever The Father Does, The Son Does Likewise". Therefore, there is a single Substance of Father & Son. Whereas men must be regarded as many because each of them acts independently, The Godhead is One because The Father never acts independently of The Son, nor The Son of The Spirit. The Divine Action begins from The Father, proceeds through The Son & is completed in The Holy Spirit. None of The Persons possesses a separate operation of His own, but one identical Energy passes through all Three. The Godhead of Father & Son is indivisible & inseparable. The Three Persons are One through Their having One Substance, One Divinity, One Will, One Operation.
We must hold fast the RULE which confesses The Father in The Son & The Son in The Father. This Rule , preserving Unity of Substance in the Two Persons, recognizes the economy of The Godhead. The Spirit is from God, so if God has a Second Person in The Son, He has a Third in The Holy Spirit. Yet all in all They are One God; The Three are a Unity.

God, in fact, is possessing Three Powers - BEING, LIVING, UNDERSTANDING. From this point of view, The Father is The Divine Essence considered as ABSOLUTE & UNCONDITIONED; He is entirely without ATTRIBUTES or DETERMINATION, INVISIBLE & UNKNOWABLE; strictly, He is 'Prior To Being'. The Son is The ' Form' by which The Godhead determines or limits Itself, thereby coming into relation with the finite & making Itself knowable. He is, as it were, The Eternal Object Of The Father's Will, or again The Object Of His  Knowledge by which He knows Himself. He is related to The Father as ACT to POTENCY, or as WORD to ETERNAL SILENCE. The Spirit is distinguishable from The Son as INTELLIGENCE is from LIFE, as the VOICE from the MOUTH which utters it. If The Father is SILENCE ELOQUENT, Christ De Messiah is His Voice; & The Holy Spirit (Paraclete) is The Voice Of Voice. If Christ De Messiah is Life, The Holy Spirit is Understanding.

We might then sum up the Characters of The Persons as "EXISTENCE, LIFE, KNOWLEDGE - O Blessed Holy Trinity! We can also affirm God as SUBSTANCE, The Son as FORM & The Holy Spirit as CONCEPT. Yet these Three dynamic Characters are shared alike by All Three Persons; each with The Others is only One Substance, One Will & Life, One Knowledge.

If The Son, as The Form & Image of The Godhead, reveals The Unknowable, in The Holy Spirit The Same Godhead knows Itself & So returns back to Itself. The Holy Spirit is thus The Link or Copula between The Father & The Son, completing the perfect circle ๐Ÿ”ต of The Divine Being. 

To describe The Oneness of The Divine Nature, it is plausible to assert that, first, The Father, Son & Holy Spirit are not Three Separate Individuals in the same way as three human beings who belong to one genus. Instead, Each of The Divine Persons, from the point of view of SUBSTANCE, is identical with The Others or The Divine Substance Itself. In this way God is not correctly described as "Threefold, but as a Trinity & The Persons can be said severally to indwell or co-inhere with Each Other. 


Secondly, whatever belongs to The Divine Nature as such should in strictness of language, be expressed in the singular, since that Nature is unique; while Each of The Persons is incarnate, infinite, omnipotent, eternal, etc., but One.
Thirdly, The Blessed Holy Trinity possessed a single, indivisible Action & a single Will. Its Operation is "inseparable". In relation to the contingent Order The Three Persons ACT as "ONE PRINCIPLE"; & as They are inseparable, so They operate inseparably. For where there is no difference of Natures, there is none of Wills either. As regards the mutual relations within The Godhead, we say that The Father can be distinguished as Father because He begets The Son; & The Son is distinguished as Son because He is begotten. The Holy Spirit, similarly, is distinguished from The Father & Son inasmuch as He is "bestowed" by Them; He is Their "Common Gift", being a kind of Communion Of The Father & Son, or else The Love which They together pour into the ๐Ÿ’š Hearts of human beings; or, specifically, God's Gift unto His favoured Kingdom Saints

Certainly, The Three are RELATIONS, as Real & Eternal as the factors of Begetting, Being Begotten & Proceeding (Or Being Bestowed) within The Godhead which give rise to Them. Father, Son & Spirit are thus RELATIONS in the sense that whatever Each of Them is, He is in RELATION to One or Both of The Others.

When we reach Heaven, the Elect will see God, that is, as far as it is possible for them to see Him, but may not be able to comprehend The Divine Essence. For what God in His Innermost Being is, neither Prophets, nor even Heavenly ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿ‘ผ Archangels have seen. This is a privilege, which has been uniquely bestowed on The Son & The Holy Spirit, and which no creature could ever usurp. In fact, it is The Son alone Who knows The Father........It is no error to say that no one knows The Father, be it the Apostle or Prophet, except he has become one with Him, as The Father & The Son are One (John 10: 30).
